Along the same lines as World of Warcraft, FreeRealms in a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, sometimes called a MMORPG, and it offers a free experience similar to other popular games of this type.

There are a ton of MMORPGs out there, but only a fool would argue that any other game beyond World of Warcraft is the most popular. Unfortunately, World of Warcraft is not a free game, and its monthly subscription fee is enough to prevent casual gamers from wanting to get in on the fun. Players that want to enjoy a game like World of Warcraft without spending the money should certainly give FreeRealms a try. The game requires nothing but a simple plug-in download so it can run through your web browser, and it does not cost a dime to play. The game is designed with a nearly cartoonish style that makes it more suitable for a larger audience, but that doesn't detract from the fun that adults or teens can derive from this game.

Once you've registered with the FreeRealms website and installed the plug-in, the game is ready to be launched. Click the 'Play Now' button, and a dedicated window will open for the game. At this point, players will create their character. Free accounts are only able to provide a single character, and after that character has been customized by the player, the game launches into a brief tutorial. It is always recommended that players go through any game's tutorial when they are just starting out, even if they have experience with similar games. Every game is unique, and FreeRealms is no different.

Once the tutorial is complete, the game instantly becomes a standard MMORPG experience. Players can explore the world around them in an entirely free sense, and they can talk with other players in the surrounding area. Most characters in the game are other people controlling their own characters, but some are non-playable characters who offer weapons, tools, and quests. The in-game currency system lets players collect wealth as they advance, which allows them to upgrade and buy new equipment.

The social aspect of FreeRealms is quite amazing. Players can chat directly with others, and there are a ton of emotes that your character will act out when selected. The game also supports a friends list that allows players to communicate much more efficiently.

Some gamers prefer to avoid free games because they tend to be limited in scale and playability, but nothing could be further from the truth with FreeRealms. The game runs through a web browser, so it tends to be quite stable and smooth, and the controls are intuitive and responsive. There are a number of animations that provide entertainment value, and those are generally very smooth as well.
